🌍 Languages

The Steer ST013B is initially shipped to consumers in: Cyprus, Ireland, Malta and the Netherlands (English-language acceptable), and to the United States. For these markets the manual is provided in English. Localised manuals for additional EU Member States are also available.

We do not ship physical product to a market until the manual is available in the official language(s) of that market, in accordance with Article 9(7) of Regulation (EU) 2023/988 (GPSR).

🎯 Intended Use & Reasonably Foreseeable Misuse

Intended use: The Steer ST013B is designed solely for diagnostic data acquisition from passenger vehicles equipped with a standard OBD-II port operating on a 12-volt electrical system, in conjunction with the Steer mobile application on iOS, by a competent adult driver, when the vehicle is stationary or operated by a passenger.

Foreseeable misuse to be avoided: use in 24-volt commercial or industrial vehicles; use while operating the vehicle as the driver; use as a primary safety system (e.g. brake or airbag diagnostics under load); use in vehicles of unknown electrical condition; permanent installation; use by minors.

⚠️ Safety Warnings

• Use only in 12 V passenger vehicles. Not suitable for 24 V systems (most heavy trucks).
• Do not disassemble, drop, crush, puncture, incinerate, or short-circuit the device.
• Insert and remove the device by gripping its body and pulling it straight out of the OBD-II port. Never force the device into a worn or damaged port.
• Not waterproof. Keep dry.
• Do not leave inserted permanently when vehicle is unused for extended periods.

♻️ Disposal & Recycling (WEEE)

Separate collection of waste electrical and electronic equipment is required by Directive 2012/19/EU (WEEE). Correct disposal contributes to recycling raw materials, reduces landfill, prevents potentially hazardous substances from being released into the environment, and protects human health.

Cyprus: S.E. SMARTERS ENGINEERED LTD is a registered member of WEEE Cyprus and Green Dot Cyprus.

Other EU Member States: Dispose of the device through your local municipal WEEE collection scheme or return it to S.E. SMARTERS ENGINEERED LTD; we will arrange compliant treatment at our cost.

France — Triman & Info-Tri

Le produit (boîtier électronique) doit être déposé en point de collecte DEEE — il ne doit pas être jeté avec les ordures ménagères. L'emballage : boîte en carton (PAP 21) à déposer dans le bac de tri papier/carton ; film plastique (LDPE 4) à déposer en point de collecte des plastiques selon les consignes de votre commune.

Italia — Etichettatura ambientale (D.Lgs 116/2020)

Battery Regulation (EU) 2023/1542

The ST013B contains no internal battery. It is powered exclusively from the vehicle 12 V OBD-II port. Regulation (EU) 2023/1542 does not apply.

United States

Recycle through your local electronics recycling programme (e.g. e-Stewards or R2 certified facility). Some U.S. states (CA, NY, IL, others) have mandatory e-waste recycling — check your state's Department of Environmental rules.

The Steer mobile application uses generative AI (Anthropic Claude) to translate raw diagnostic codes into plain-language explanations. AI-generated content is labelled as such inside the app. AI explanations are decision support only and do not replace professional inspection.

🇺🇸 FCC Compliance (United States)

The full FCC compliance statements (15.19, 15.21, 15.105 Class B Notice, RF exposure, Industry Canada status) are reproduced verbatim below in English as required by U.S. federal law.

FCC §15.19(a)(3): This device complies with Part 15 of the FCC Rules. Operation is subject to the following two conditions: (1) this device may not cause harmful interference, and (2) this device must accept any interference received, including interference that may cause undesired operation.

FCC §15.21: Changes or modifications not expressly approved by the party responsible for compliance could void the user's authority to operate the equipment.

FCC §15.105(b) — Class B Digital Device Notice: This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class B digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference in a residential installation. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. However, there is no guarantee that interference will not occur in a particular installation. If this equipment does cause harmful interference to radio or television reception, which can be determined by turning the equipment off and on, the user is encouraged to try to correct the interference by one or more of the following measures: reorient or relocate the receiving antenna; increase the separation between the equipment and receiver; consult the dealer or an experienced radio/TV technician.

RF Exposure (FCC §1.1310): This device complies with FCC MPE limits for uncontrolled environments. Mobile device; output < 10 mW EIRP. To comply with FCC RF exposure requirements, this device must be installed and operated with a minimum distance of 20 cm between the device and your body.
